Shared a hostel kitchen in Medellin with a guy who worked exactly 2 hours a day and I still think about it
I was in Medellin for 5 weeks last spring and ended up in a hostel in Poblado where this guy from Portugal made breakfast next to me every morning. He told me he only works 2 hours a day, from 6 to 8 am, doing some kind of client email stuff for a company back home, and spends the rest of the day at coffee shops and walking around. I asked how he affords it and he just said his rent back home is paid by a roommate and his costs here are low, so 2 hours covers it. I keep going back and forth on whether that is smart or just risky, and I never got his name to ask him more. Has anyone here tried cutting down to a couple hours a day on purpose, and did it actually hold up long term?
Man that would stick with me too. Five weeks of watching someone live like that every morning over eggs would mess with your head, especially when you never even got a name to follow up with. I spent three months in Oaxaca once next to a dude who did freelance design maybe ten hours a week and just... existed. Ate cheap, walked everywhere, never stressed. Part of me was jealous and part of me kept waiting for the whole thing to fall apart, and as far as I know it never did. The not knowing is the worst part, right? You just have to sit with the question forever.
