Can we talk about how my work focus went from 2 hours a day to a solid 6 after I stopped moving every month?

My buddy Mike did that for like six months straight back in 2021, bouncing between coffee shops and his brother's couch and a shared office space. What I noticed watching him was how every time he switched spots, he'd lose about 45 minutes just finding the power outlet and figuring out the wifi password, then another half hour adjusting to the noise level. It's the same as when people keep switching their morning routine, you never actually settle into the flow because your brain is still processing the new environment. I think this whole idea of constant change being good is kind of a myth, especially for deep work. Your focus doesn't just get better from staying put, it gets better because your brain stops burning energy on the small stuff like where to sit.

Wait you were moving every month" makes it sound like a full relocation. I read the original post more like they were changing work spots constantly, like cafes or coworking spaces. That kind of moving around kills focus. Setting up, finding wifi, dealing with noise, it all adds up. Having one regular spot cuts out all that wasted setup time and mental energy.

Wait you were moving every month? That sounds insane.
