Worst digital art showcase day I've ever had

Last Tuesday, my tablet pen died mid-demo at a gallery opening for my new series. Had to finish the live drawing with my finger on a touchscreen in front of 40 people. Has anyone else had gear fail at the worst possible moment?

40 people watching you finger-paint on a tablet sounds like a solid performance piece honestly, way more memorable than a perfect demo. A dead pen forces you to adapt on the spot, and that kind of spontaneous creativity is what people actually remember from a showcase. Gear fails are frustrating, but they also prove you can roll with the punches.

Is it really that deep, though? I get what you're saying @drew_grant52, but calling a broken stylus a "performance piece" feels like a stretch to me. Sometimes a gear fail is just a gear fail, not some deep test of your creative soul. People might remember the finger painting, but they're probably remembering it as a mess up, not as a planned piece of art. I'd rather have a smooth demo that shows off the actual work than turn my presentation into a survival game. Plus, a lot of folks in the audience might just feel bad for you instead of being impressed by your quick thinking. It's fine to roll with the punches, but let's not pretend a broken tool makes the art better.
