That free texture pack site actually had way more unique stuff than the paid one
I was browsing CC0 textures for a cyberpunk scene and found a site called ambientcg that had over 1500 PBR maps all free. Turns out a lot of those $20 packs on Gumroad just repackage these same textures with different names. Has anyone else found legit free resources that beat the paid stuff?

Is it just me or are we pretending curation means nothing now? Those free sites are a mess, half the textures look like they were scanned in someone’s garage with bad lighting. Paying twenty bucks saves you hours of digging through garbage.

Wait, you’re saying those $20 packs are just renamed freebies? That's crazy. I downloaded a "premium industrial grunge" set once and found the exact same tile on ambientcg with a different label. The free version even had better resolution. People paying $20 for that are getting played. Holly says curation matters but I spent three hours on Gumroad sifting through overpriced junk last week.
