I think the push for perfect realism in digital art is a mistake

I saw a friend's portfolio from 2020 and then again last month, and the change is huge. They went from these cool, stylized characters with bold colors to super detailed, almost photo-like portraits. They told me they felt pressure to 'keep up' after seeing so much hyper-realistic work online. Honestly, I miss the old stuff that had more feeling and a clear style. Does anyone else feel like the art community is pushing everyone toward the same look?

I mean, is it really that deep? People change their style over time, it's not some big conspiracy from the art world. Your friend probably just likes the challenge of realism now, doesn't mean they lost their soul or whatever. Maybe they're just bored of drawing the same cartoon characters for years and wanted to try something new. Seems like a lot of drama over someone just learning a new skill.

That pressure to fit in can really kill a unique voice.

Yeah, you gotta ignore the noise. Do your own thing, even if it feels weird at first.
