Flash drive with my full portfolio died at a showcase in Portland

I was set up at the Portland Digital Art Expo last Saturday, showing my work on a tablet. Went to pull up a client piece from my flash drive and the thing just clicked dead. No warning, no backup. I had to stand there and tell people my portfolio was on a broken thumb drive. Now I keep copies on my phone, my laptop, and a cloud drive. What do you use to keep your art backed up?

Huh, I mean I get why everyone's saying multiple backups now but idk it sounds like you were already kinda set up for failure there. Like you're a working artist showing at a real event and you don't have a copy on your actual tablet or phone? Maybe it's just me but I keep my portfolio on my device itself plus a cloud service like Dropbox or Google Drive. Flash drives are for moving files between computers not for primary storage at a gig. I've had two drives die on me over the years and both times I just shrugged and pulled the same file off my phone or logged into my drive on someone else's laptop. That's three layers minimum before you count physical backups.

Just read a study that said something like 60% of data loss happens because people rely on just one method of storage. Kinda tracks with what you're saying about layering things up. Local and cloud is the way to go for sure.
