Can we talk about how I used to hand-paint every layer of my digital portraits in one file?
Two years ago I did everything on a single layer in Procreate, just pushing pixels around until it looked okay. It felt fast but every time a client asked for a color change I had to repaint half the face. Last month I made a piece for a friend's coffee shop in Portland and used 22 separate layers, one for shadows, one for highlights, one just for the steam off the cup. It took me almost 9 hours total but when she said the cup needed to be teal instead of orange I just tapped the layer and changed it in 10 seconds. That moment honestly felt better than finishing the piece. Now I open my old files and cringe at all the merged mess. Anyone else make the switch to layered workflow later than they should have, or am I the last one?
