Vent: Had to choose between a full rebuild or just swapping the head on a 6.0 Powerstroke with 200k miles.

Went with the head swap to save the customer $3k, but now it's back with a cracked block. Anyone else been burned by trying to cut costs on a high-mileage engine?

My buddy's shop did a head gasket on a 5.9 Cummins with 180k, and the bottom end let go a month later. It's such a gamble on anything past 150k, lol. I just assume a full rebuild is the only safe bet now.

Wait, the bottom end went out just a month after a head gasket job? That's crazy bad luck. Makes you wonder if something got messed up during the work or if it was just its time. I get being scared to touch anything over 150k now, but a full rebuild is so much money. What would you even do in that spot, just cut your losses?
