Stripped a fuel line fitting on a '97 Cummins in a truck stop parking lot near El Paso
Had to cut the line and use a compression fitting I found in an old tool roll because nobody nearby stocked the right part, has anyone else improvised a fix on the side of the road like that?

Ain't it funny how truck stops always have everything except the one part you actually need? A compression fitting on a 12-valve is the kind of hack that either gets you home or leaves you walking in the desert, so I'd say you played your hand right.

Buddy of mine tried that exact trick with his old Powerstroke out in Utah. He got about 80 miles before the compression fitting started weeping and he had to baby it the rest of the way. End of the story, he still made it home and the fitting held long enough to get a proper part the next day.
