Put a fresh set of injectors in a 7.3 Powerstroke last Tuesday and got way worse fuel economy than before.
Old injectors were original at 280k miles. New ones are from a reputable brand not cheap eBay junk. Truck ran smoother idled quieter but my mpg dropped from 17 to 13 on the highway. Talked to a guy at the parts counter and he said new injectors need a good 500 miles to break in and the ECM has to relearn the trim. That sound right or did I get a bad set? Anyone else seen this after swapping injectors?

Yeah you talked to a guy that knows his stuff. That 500 mile break in thing is real. The new injectors have tighter tolerances and the pintles need to seat in properly. Also the ECM has to relearn the injection control pressure and timing trim. Its not just gonna snap to perfect right out of the box. I swapped a set in my 01 F250 last year and my mpg tanked for about 400 miles then slowly came back up. Ended up getting 18.5 after they broke in which was better than the old ones. Just give it some time and keep driving it normal. If it doesnt improve by 600 miles then maybe start looking at other stuff.

Yeah nailed it, @stellabennett is spot on with the ECM needing to relearn the trim. I went through the same thing with my 7.3 after swapping injectors and it took a good 400 miles before my mpg came back and even improved.
