PSA: Tried running a 7.3 Powerstroke on a cheap reman injector from eBay, ended up with a cylinder knock in under 300 miles.
Pulled the injector out after the knock started and found the tip was cracked, so I guess sticking with a reputable rebuilder is worth the extra $75 even if it means waiting an extra week for shipping; has anyone else had a bad run with those budget reman injectors?

Honestly, did anyone check if the injector body itself was from a known donor or just some random casting? I've been reading that some of those cheap remans are actually using aftermarket bodies that don't have the same heat treat or material specs as factory ones, which could cause cracking under high pressure. @theaw65, you mentioned a budget turbo failure and I bet that had similar core issues - like, the seller probably didn't balance the compressor wheel or check for shaft play. It's not just about the price tag, it's about whether the rebuilder is actually inspecting and machining the cores instead of just cleaning them up and slapping new tips on. A lot of people don't realize the injector body itself matters more than the solenoid or nozzle on a 7.3.

You used to think cheap parts were fine too? I was the same way until I put a budget turbo on my 7.3 and it ate itself in 500 miles. That experience made me stick with known rebuilders even if it costs a bit more.
