My uncle told me to never use a 3/4 inch impact on a 6.7 Powerstroke's oil filter housing
He said it was a surefire way to crack the plastic and cause a huge leak. I thought he was just being overly cautious, so I did it anyway on a job last month. Sure enough, I put a hairline crack right near the drain port and had to replace the whole unit. It cost the customer an extra $400 in parts and labor. Anyone got a better method for those stubborn filters that doesn't risk the housing?

Honestly, I've used a 3/4 impact on mine for years with no problems. The trick is to just use it to break the initial torque, not to run it the whole way. You gotta be careful and not just hammer on it. A hand ratchet can put just as much sideways force on that plastic.

Yeah, I used to agree with @grant130, but after seeing a cracked one in person, I'm team hand tools only now.
