Why does nobody talk about the $35 "universal" power brick that killed my old Discman
I got a 1998 Discman from a yard sale in Fresno for $8 and the battery door was broken, so I ordered a $35 universal power brick off a big site with a bunch of swappable tips. It listed my model under "compatible" so I plugged it in, and the thing spun up for about ten seconds before it made a click and went dead silent. My neighbor who fixes old stereos opened it up and said the brick pushed the wrong polarity and cooked the motor board, and now the player is a paperweight. So I'm out $43 total and learned to check polarity with a multimeter before trusting any label. Has anyone found a decent adapter for these old players, or is hunting down the exact original plug the only real fix?
