My uncle told me to toss my dead iPod Classic. I fixed it for $12 instead.
Last month at a family dinner in Fresno, my uncle saw me fiddling with my old iPod Classic and told me to just throw it out since Apple stopped supporting it in 2014. I ordered a $12 battery kit online and swapped it out in about 20 minutes, and now it holds a charge longer than my phone. Why do people assume dead tech means dead for good when a simple part swap usually brings it back?
Noticed this same thing with all kinds of stuff lately. My roommate was gonna drop $200 on a new coffee maker because hers stopped heating up, turned out to be a $6 thermal fuse. Same deal with my dad's garage door opener, a $4 capacitor from Amazon and it's been running fine for two years now. We got trained to just replace everything instead of opening it up and looking at what actually broke.
