My 2005 Creative Zen finally bricked, but the hard drive inside still works as a USB dock
Was in my garage last Saturday pulling out old chargers, the screen gave up after 19 years, but I pried it open and that 40GB drive recovered photos of my dad's boat trip to Lake Erie that I thought were gone forever, has anyone else salvaged parts from a dead MP3 player instead of just tossing it?
Honestly used to laugh at my buddy for hoarding dead electronics in his basement, thought it was just junk collecting dust. Then my old iPod classic died and I almost chucked it, but something made me crack it open first. Pulled the drive, bought a cheap case online, and found voice memos of my grandma singing that I didn't even know existed. Now I've got a little bin of dead players and I refuse to toss any of them. That 40GB drive out of your Zen is worth more than the player ever was, photos of your dad's boat trip are priceless. Glad you didn't just dump it in the trash.
