A retired postman in Akron showed me his trick for keeping an old Palm Pilot alive
I was at a flea market in Akron two weeks ago and got talking to a retired postman named Walt who still syncs his Palm Pilot every Sunday. He told me he keeps a Windows XP laptop in a closet just for that, with the wireless card pulled out so it never phones home for updates. He said the sync cable failed him once back in 2011 and he bought 4 spares off eBay the same night. What old device do you keep a whole second machine around just to support?

Walt keeping a whole XP laptop just for a Sunday sync is wild, but I'd argue the real bragging rights go to the guy who never needed the spare cable in the first place. Half the fun of these old gadgets is nursing one machine along, not building a tiny museum around it. Still, four backup cables in one night is some serious dedication, what's he syncing that's so important every week?
