Tried to film a dead mall at night in Columbus, got chased by security

I wanted to get some good shots of the old Northland Mall after dark because the lighting is creepy and cool. I was there for maybe 10 minutes setting up my tripod near an entrance when a security truck rolled up and a guy told me to leave or he'd call the cops. I thought malls that are mostly empty wouldn't have active security, but I guess the owners don't want people poking around at night. Has anyone else run into security guards at abandoned malls and figured out a way to get permission?

Isn't that how it always goes? You think you're being stealthy and then bam, security rolls up like they're the CIA. I can't even sneak into a Best Buy parking lot without getting the flashlight treatment.
