The day the food court fountain dried up at Willowbrook Mall taught me something
I drove out to Willowbrook Mall in New Jersey last Saturday and got there just before sunrise. I used to go there with my mom as a kid and get an orange julius from that stand near the fountain. Seeing the water completely gone and the bottom full of old pennies and trash hit me harder than I expected. It made me realize those little details like the sound of running water are what actually made those places feel alive. Has anyone else had a random small thing hit them like that when revisiting an old mall?

The fountain at my local mall was always full of wish pennies and somehow seeing it drained felt like the whole place had given up on wishing.

Wish pennies" just means people are cheap, not that the mall lost hope.
