Switched from flash to available light after a rainy shoot at Pine Ridge Mall

Used to always bring a speedlight to dead mall shoots. Thought I needed it for those dark corridors. Then last month I was at Pine Ridge Mall in Ohio and it was raining hard. Couldn't set up my light without getting it soaked. So I just bumped my ISO and used the natural glow from the skylights. The photos came out way moodier and more real. Now I only use flash if I absolutely have to. Has anyone else ditched gear they thought was essential?

Yeah, because my shadows were SO well-behaved.
