I have been photographing dead malls for about 2 years now and always went wide, you know, the classic empty food court or the long hallway shot. Last month at Rolling Acres in Akron this older dude with a tripod watched me for a bit and said "you are shooting the building, not the people who left it." That hit me hard because I went back through my whole drive and every photo was just empty space with no story. So now I look for the little stuff, a lone shoe, a store sign with one letter falling off, a receipt from 2009. Do you guys shoot close up details or do you still go for the big wide shots?
