Found an old lease agreement from 1998 in a dead mall dumpster
I was poking around the abandoned Fox Run Mall in New Hampshire last weekend and found a crumpled lease agreement in a trash bin behind the old food court. The rent for a 1,200 square foot store was $18 per square foot back then, which surprised me because I always thought malls charged way more. Adjusted for inflation that's about $35 today, but even that seems cheap compared to what anchor stores pay now. Has anyone else found old financial documents in a dead mall?

Man, I bet that lease is worth more as a souvenir than the store ever made. Probably explains why the mall is belly up now, those deals were way too generous. Guess the landlord figured they'd make it up in parking fees and overpriced Cinnabon rent. Ever check if the terms included a clause about the roof leaking?
