Chat with a former mall cop hit me harder than I expected
Ran into this older guy named Dave who used to work security at Southridge Mall back in the 90s. He told me how they had 85 stores packed on a Saturday, now it's down to maybe 12 and a furniture outlet. Said the real killer was when the department store anchors pulled out around 2008, everything just snowballed from there. Anyone else got stories from mall staff who saw the whole thing fall apart?

Nah man, my cousin worked security at a mall in Ohio and said the anchors leaving was only part of it. He said the real gut punch was when the food court started losing its main chains, like after Sbarro left nobody came to eat and then the whole vibe just died.

Wait, so the mall's whole economy collapsed because nobody wanted to eat pizza without a sad, empty food court? That's like saying a party died because the chips and dip ran out (even though everyone was already leaving anyway). Guess that Sbarro really was the canary in the coal mine, huh - just with more cheese and regret.
