Unpopular opinion: my $3 pawn shop phone case beat every $40 case I've owned

Two sides here: cheap gear that surprises you versus fancy gear that lets you down. Back in 2019 I paid 3 bucks for a beat up plastic case at a pawn shop in Toledo for my old Moto G, and that thing outlasted two $40 cases that cracked within months. So is it luck, or are we all just paying extra for a logo? Tell me your best cheap win or worst expensive burn.
