My Canon PowerShot S100 from 2012 still takes better low-light shots than my current phone

I dug out my old Canon PowerShot S100 from a drawer last weekend because I needed a camera for a specific workshop I was teaching. The difference in image quality blew my mind, especially in dim indoor lighting. I snapped a few photos of some vintage test gear under a desk lamp and compared them to what my 2023 phone produced. The S100 had way less noise and the colors looked natural instead of that oversharpened artificial look. This thing has a 1/1.7 inch sensor which is tiny by today's standards but it still handles shadows better. I think the difference is that Canon actually tuned the image processing for photography instead of social media. Has anyone else noticed their old compact cameras beating out modern phone cameras in specific situations like this?

Tbh this is just like how my old shop vac from 2001 still out-sucks the new one.
