My buddy at the retro gaming meetup said my CRT monitor was "the wrong kind" for retro gaming - I think he's full of it
I've been using a Sony Trinitron from 2004 for my old consoles. Works fine for NES and SNES. This guy named Mark at the meetup last Saturday told me I need a PVM or nothing. Said my setup is "not authentic." But I've been playing Castlevania on this thing for three years with zero issues. Why does everyone act like only the expensive pro gear counts? Has anyone else caught flack for using "wrong" old gear that still works great?

Man I used to be totally on the "you need a PVM or nothing" train a few years back, but honestly threads like this and seeing @wilson.jesse talk about his Trinitron made me realize how dumb that is. I was all about the expensive gear until I actually played on a regular Trinitron at a friend's house and it looked fantastic, especially for NES and SNES. The "not authentic" thing is just gatekeeping nonsense, the real retro experience is about the games not the brand name on the tube. Yeah PVMs are nice if you can find one cheap but your Trinitron is 100% fine and Mark needs to chill out.
