Found out my old Palm Pilot still has more stored memory than my vacation brain

Honestly, I dug out my Palm m130 last weekend for a laugh and realized it's been holding my entire 2003 address book, 40 memos, and 12 apps for 21 years without a single battery change since 2019. How do these things outlast our phone batteries and why did I ever think carrying a brick with 33MHz was a good idea, anyone else keep one on a shelf for emergencies?

Man, this is such a perfect example of how we traded reliability for flashiness! Everything nowadays is built to be replaced every couple years, but that little plastic brick just sits there doing its job like it's got nothing better to do. It's wild how we've accepted that our phones need charging twice a day and slow down after a software update, yet this old tech just hums along forever. I think we got so caught up in having the newest stuff that we forgot that sometimes the boring, simple option is actually the best one. There's something kinda comforting about knowing a device from two decades ago still works without a fuss, while my current phone dies by lunchtime if I look at it too hard. Maybe we should all take a lesson from our old gadgets and stop overcomplicating everything.
