A guy at the flea market told me my old ThinkPad was "just e-waste" and I need you all to hear why he was wrong
I was at the Hartville flea market in Ohio two Saturdays ago with my 2008 ThinkPad X200 out on the table, showing a guy how the keyboard feels. He picked it up, turned it over, and said "nobody wants these bricks anymore, you should just recycle it." I almost packed up right there. Instead I asked him to type one sentence on it, and he sat there for like 4 minutes just pressing keys. He did not buy it, but he did ask where I find them. Since that day I stopped pricing my old gear to compete with new stuff and started telling people what it actually does, like the 9 hour battery on this thing with the slice pack. If someone calls your old machine junk, do you argue with them or just hand it over and let the hardware talk?
Honestly this feels like a lot of buildup over one guy at a flea market who didn't even know what he was holding. Some random dude calling your laptop junk isn't really a moment that needs a lesson attached to it, he just didn't get it and that's fine. I'd have shrugged and moved on instead of turning it into a whole speech about letting the hardware do the talking.
