Unpopular opinion: "Comparison is the thief of joy" never helped me, but a quote from Rocky did
Everyone posts that Roosevelt line about comparison and nods along, but it never stuck for me. Then last month I watched Rocky Balboa on a Tuesday night after bombing a job interview in Cleveland, and the line about nobody hitting harder than life got me off the couch. The next morning I sent 4 follow-up emails I'd been avoiding for a week and two of them led to real callbacks. Roosevelt felt like a pat on the back, Rocky felt like a plan. What movie line actually got you to do something instead of just feel better for a minute?
Took the Rocky line a different way. Nobody hits harder than life, sure, but half of life's hits are the ones you walk into yourself. Waiting on a feeling to move you is how you stay on the couch. The 4 emails worked because you sent them, not because a movie told you to.
