Shoutout to the $18 copy of Marcus Aurelius I bought at a library sale in Toledo
I grabbed a beat up paperback of Meditations for $18 at a library sale in Toledo about 8 months ago, mostly because the cover looked cool. The line that got me was "you could leave life right now, let that determine what you do and say and think." I read it the week my dad went in for heart surgery, and it did not feel like some old Roman guy talking, it felt like a warning about all the dumb stuff I waste my days on. I still flip to that page when I catch myself putting off a call to someone I care about. Does any quote actually stick with you like that, or do most of them just slide off after a day?
