My dad's old quote about 'doing it right the first time' keeps getting twisted these days

I saw a post last week where someone said that quote means you should never make mistakes, but my dad meant it different. He was a mechanic in Pittsburgh, and he'd say it while showing me how to clean a carburetor step by step. The point wasn't perfection, it was about paying attention so you don't have to tear apart the same engine twice. Why do people always turn practical advice into some kind of pressure?

Rip that idea apart, because real life almost never lets you do things right the first time. Plans change, you learn new stuff as you go, and sometimes you just don't have all the information you need at the start. Doing it over and fixing mistakes is how most of us actually figure out what "right" even means. Acting like you should nail it on the first try just makes people feel bad when they inevitably mess up, which is pretty much everyone.
