Update: I finally turned on two factor for my email after putting it off for 2 years
Two years ago my bank told me someone tried to get into my account from a city 900 miles away and I still kept putting off the extra step because I thought it would slow me down all day. Last Monday I turned on the app based code for my main email and it took me under 4 minutes, and I have only had to punch in a code twice since then. For anyone still dragging their feet, what finally pushed you to flip the switch, or did you get burned first like I almost did?
My password for my main email was literally the word "password" plus my birth year for about six years, so you are doing way better than I was. I finally turned on the code thing after my friend's account got hijacked and sent a fake money request to everyone in her contacts, and she had to call like 20 people to tell them it wasn't her. Setting mine up took maybe 5 minutes and now I barely notice it, the app just shows a number and I type it in. The only time it bugs me is when I get a new phone and have to set it all up again, which is a whole thing. But two codes in a week is nothing compared to losing your email and having to explain to your aunt that no, you don't actually need bail money.
