Rant: I paid $200 for a "lifetime" VPN and it got bought out in 18 months

Signed up for PureVPN's 5 year plan because the price per month was like $3.33. Thought I was being smart locking in a deal. Then 18 months later they got bought by some company I never heard of, terms changed entirely, and now my "lifetime" means nothing. Support won't refund, just pointing at the fine print. Has anyone else had a VPN or security service pull this bait and switch on you?

Had a similar thing happen with a password manager I paid for upfront for five years. Thought I was set for life and then they got bought by a bigger company that changed the whole login system and added ads. Now I just do month to month on everything, even if the per month price is higher. Learned my lesson about trusting long term deals in this industry.

Man, that PureVPN situation sounds like a total gut punch, especially after you thought you were set. I've had similar bait and switches with other services, and the fine print always seems to protect them, not us. It's tough to trust any long term deal in tech these days when companies keep getting bought out.
