My kid's tablet got a weird pop-up while we were on vacation in Orlando last month

It was a fake virus alert trying to get me to call a number. I just shut the tablet off and ran a scan when we got home. Anyone know a good parental control app that blocks these scam sites?

A fake virus alert on a kid's tablet is so creepy, especially while you're just trying to have a vacation. We use Bark for our family and it's been good at blocking those weird pop-up sites before they load. It lets you set time limits and filter content without being too complicated.

Fake virus alert on vacation" sounds like the worst magic trick ever. The tablet basically shouts "gotcha" while you're trying to relax. Nothing says family trip like a kid panicking over some scammer's badly drawn skull and crossbones.

Honestly see this as more of a teachable moment than a crisis. Kids are going to run into junk online everywhere, vacation or not. AmyMiller has a point about using tools to block it, but I feel like a quick talk about not clicking scary pop-ups does more good long term. It's annoying for sure, but treating it like a huge deal might just make the kid more scared next time.
