I finally understood how dangerous a public USB port can be after my phone acted up at the Denver airport last Tuesday.

My phone started installing weird apps on its own after I plugged it into a free charging station near gate B45 to get from 10% to 50% before my flight.

Man, that's scary. People forget those ports can also be used to copy data, not just charge. A hacker could have set up a fake charging station that pulled your contacts or photos in the background while it gave you power. Always use your own wall plug or a charge-only cable that blocks data pins.

Yikes, that's the real nightmare scenario. Leo_adams, that's exactly why it freaks me out too, it looks so harmless. I got one of those data-blocking cables for airports and coffee shops, and honestly it just lets me plug in without that low-key worry. The idea that a simple charge could cost you your private stuff is wild. Makes you check every public port twice now.

Wow, I used to think those were totally safe.
