Caught my ex boss keylogging my work laptop, coworkers took his side
Found a hidden keylogger on my work laptop last spring after I noticed the mouse moving on its own at 2am in my home office in Austin. IT said it was installed by my boss, who wanted to 'track productivity' without telling anyone. I brought it up in a team meeting and three coworkers said I was overreacting, that it's normal for management to spy on company devices. I ended up wiping the machine and using a personal phone for anything sensitive, but the trust is gone. Anyone else deal with workplace surveillance where HR did nothing? How did you handle the awkwardness with the person who did it?

Wait, is it bad that my first thought was 'at least they didn't catch me watching 4 hours of cat videos on my company laptop'? I mean, that's horrifying, don't get me wrong. Your boss sounds like a real piece of work, and the coworkers taking his side just proves nobody wants to rock the boat. I've had a manager check my screen once during a zoom call and I felt like I needed a shower after. You handled it way better than I would have, I probably would've put a Post-it note over the camera and called it a day. The trust thing is the killer though, once you know they're watching, you're just waiting for the next creepy thing to happen.
