Appreciation post: the free password manager on my phone beat the browser's saved passwords after the dump in Columbus
I had all my logins saved in my browser for years until a breach hit a site I used and someone tried my old password on 4 other accounts over one weekend. A friend walked me through setting up a free password manager and it flagged 11 reused passwords I didn't even know I had, which the browser never bothered to warn me about. Has anyone else switched after a scare like that, and did it actually feel safer once it was done?
Honestly I kind of see it the other way. When you say "the browser never bothered to warn me," that's partly on us for never digging into the settings, since Chrome and Firefox both had password checkup tools for a while. The manager didn't magically beat the browser, a friend sat down and made you actually look at your logins. A password manager is only as good as the person setting it up, and if nobody walks you through it, you'll still reuse stuff and just feel safer without being safer.
