Tried to hand-wire a keyboard with scrap wire from my garage... big mistake
Last Tuesday I decided to save $15 by using some old speaker wire I found in a toolbox for my first hand-wired build. Everything was going fine until I plugged it in and three keys started typing in reverse order. Turns out that wire had some weird coating that melted after 10 minutes of soldering. Has anyone else ruined a build by using the wrong wire material?

That weird coating melted after 10 minutes" - same thing happened to me with some old lamp cord I had lying around. The insulation turned into sticky goo and shorted out half my matrix.

Agree with @charles_kim on this one. That sticky goo is the worst. I had a similar mess with some old audio cable once, took forever to clean off the board.
