TIL foam vs silicone dampeners is a legit war

I built two identical boards last month, one with neoprene foam and one with silicone shelf liner, and the difference was insane. The foam one sounds deeper and cleaner, while the silicone one has this weird hollow echo I can't ignore. Has anyone else tested both and found a clear winner for their build?

dude that "hollow echo" you mentioned with the silicone is exactly what happened to my last build too. i tried the shelf liner first cause it was cheaper and it just gave everything this weird tinny reverb, even with a brass plate. switched to foam and the whole board sounded way more solid and clean, like the sound actually stops when it should.

Actually foam and silicone have different densities so they're not really the same thing.
