The guy at the Houston meetup convinced me to lube my switches with 205g0 and now I owe him a beer
I built my first board about a year ago, a 65 percent with some cheap tactile switches, and I skipped lubing them because every build video I saw made it look like a huge hassle. At a keyboard meetup in Houston last month, this guy named Marcus handed me his board and said, you need to try a lubed linear before you decide anything. I rolled my eyes at first because I figured it was just hype from the youtube crowd. But I typed on it for about two minutes and the difference was not subtle at all, the keys felt smooth and quiet in a way mine never did. So I went home, bought a $12 jar of 205g0 and a brush kit, and spent about 4 hours on a Sunday lubing 68 switches with a podcast on. My board is not even a nice one but it sounds completely different now and I find myself making excuses to type on it. Question for you all, do you lube your stabilizers too or is that overkill for a budget build?
Marcus did you a real favor there. I watched a video from a guy called Keybored last year and he said stabs matter even more than the switches, since a bad stab rattles no matter how nice the switch is. So yes, lube them, it takes like 20 extra minutes and you already have the jar open.
