Sat at my bench for 3 hours wondering why my spacebar kept rattling on one side, then I finally checked the stabilizer wire
About a month ago I built a 65% board with Gateron Browns and the spacebar had this awful rattle on the right side that I could not get rid of. I must have relubed the housing three times, swapped springs, tried two different keycap sets, and even retaped the plate, all while ignoring the actual culprit. When I finally pulled the wire out and laid it flat on my desk, it was bent by maybe 1mm, which was enough to make the stem tip and stop sitting level. Here is the debate though: do you straighten a bent wire yourself with pliers and a flat surface, or do you just buy a fresh one for $4 and move on? I bent mine back by hand and it works now, but some people online say hand bent wires never stay true and the rattle always comes back. So what is the real answer, fix it or toss it, and how do you even know when a wire is too far gone to save?
