Just realized I've been lubing switches wrong for over a year

I was talking to a guy at the local meetup in Portland last weekend and he asked what lube I use for linear switches. I told him I just put a thick coat on the stem sides and he looked at me crazy - said I only need a thin layer on the rails and the stem legs don't even need it. Now I'm wondering how many of my past builds could have felt way better if I had known this sooner. Anybody else get a basic tip way later than they should have?

Dude I feel you so hard on this one. I was lubing my Gateron Yellows for like 8 months putting a thick blob on the stem sides and bottom too. Then a guy named Mike at my local shop showed me the bag lube method where you just put a tiny drop in a bag with the switches and shake it around. My first build after that felt so smooth I almost cried a little. You're not alone in this one for sure.
