I finally quit buying pre-lubed switches and I'm out $60 because of it
Last spring I grabbed four packs of pre-lubed linears for a 65% build, thinking I was saving myself a Saturday of work. The first three felt fine. By the fourth pack, half of them had that greasy, mushy feel on the downstroke, and a few pinged worse than dry stock. I went back to check the listing and the seller said the lube was "factory applied," which turns out to mean whatever they had on the bench that week. Two of those switches started chattering inside 8 weeks, and I had to desolder the whole board to swap them out. That's about $60 in switches gone plus an evening with the iron. Now I just buy dry and lube them myself with a small brush, it takes longer but at least I know what's in there. Has anyone gotten a pre-lubed batch that actually held up long term, or is this just a thing you learn once and never do again?
