Hot take: I thought lubing switches was overhyped, then a guy at the Columbus meetup let me try his board
I used to think lubing switches was a waste of a Saturday. Then at the Columbus keyboard meetup in March, a guy named Pat handed me two identical boards, one stock and one lubed with 205g0. The lubed one felt like a different switch, way less scratchy and the sound was deeper, not pingy. I went home and lubed 70 switches that night and now I get why people do it. Has anyone else had a build where a tiny change made you rethink your whole approach?

205g0 is great but it's actually a thin lube, not a thick one like people assume. That matters because the deep sound you heard wasn't just from the lube itself, it was from the combo of the lube plus whatever films and springs were in that board. Pat might have filmed the switches too, since films do a lot of the sound work while lube mainly kills the scratch. I've lubed the same set of switches twice, once with 205g0 and once with a thicker mix, and the thicker stuff actually made them feel mushy and slow. So the "lubed vs stock" test can be misleading if you don't know every single thing that changed between the two boards.
