Hot take: foam inside your case kills the sound more than it helps...

I've been seeing so many builds lately where people cram foam in every gap, and I think it's muffling the natural resonance of the board. At my desk with a Tofu60, I tried it both ways: full foam under the PCB vs just letting it breathe. The foam version sounded dead and flat to my ears, like typing on a pillow, while the open build had a nice poppy clack that felt alive. But then a buddy argued foam cuts the hollow echo in aluminum cases and makes it cleaner for office use. So which is it ... are we killing character for consistency, or am I missing something about foam's benefits? Has anyone else done a blind test between the two on the same board?

Foam kills the pop. Open sound > muffled thock every time.

A few months ago I was all about foam in every board I built. I had a KBD67 Lite with like 3 layers of case foam and it was just a thocky box. Then I swapped to a half plate build with no bottom foam and the difference was night and day. The board actually sounded alive with this nice ringing pop instead of being choked to death. My Frogger with no foam and pom plate is my daily now because it just sings. You're totally right, I was suffocating my boards.
