Hot swap sockets sounded like a gimmick, now I'm a believer after 3 board swaps
I spent 2 years soldering everything because I figured hot swap was just for people who couldn't handle an iron, but last month I swapped switches on my work board in 10 minutes without touching a soldering station. The real kicker was when a bent pin on my new tactile set would've been a 20 minute desolder job, but instead I just popped it out and fixed it in seconds. Has anyone else switched sides on hot swap after being a hardcore solder purist, or am I the only one who wasted all that time?

Traded my soldering iron for a hot swap board about a year ago and honestly wish I did it sooner. The first time I killed a switch on a Friday night, I just pulled it out and threw in a spare instead of spending the weekend fixing traces. What really sold me was testing different springs and stems without committing to anything, it turned tinkering into a 5 minute hobby instead of a whole project. I still solder for builds I plan to keep forever, but for anything I might want to change, hot swap is just practical. No shame in admitting I wasted two years being stubborn about it.
