Finally figured out why my spacebar was rattling so bad
I mean, I’ve been building keyboards for like 8 months now and always just assumed a rattly spacebar was normal for budget builds. Last week I rebuilt my third board and decided to actually look up why my spacebar sounded like a maraca. Turns out I was putting the stabilizer wires in backwards the whole time. The wire was supposed to snap into the plastic housing clip thing, not just sit on top of it. I felt so dumb when I watched a video and saw the guy do it right in like 2 seconds. Fixed it on my old board and the difference was night and day. Has anyone else had a moment where you realized you were doing something basic completely wrong for months?

Funny you mention that, I actually read a blog post about stabilizer assembly not too long ago that talked about this exact problem. The author said most people get the wire position wrong because the instructions that come with the parts are usually terrible. They recommended lubing the wire where it snaps in as well, not just the stem. I tried that tip on my last build and it made a big difference, even with cheap stabilizers. It is easy to miss these little details when you are just starting out, so do not beat yourself up over it.

Broke a wire trying to snap it in last week, what a pain.
