Tried character-driven plotting over plot-driven for my short story and it flopped hard

I spent 3 days outlining this intricate heist plot for a 5-page story, but the characters felt like cardboard cutouts. So I scraped it and wrote the same story focusing only on their motives and fears, and it took 2 hours to finish. Has anyone else found that switching your approach halfway through a prompt actually makes the story better or did I just get lucky?

Yeah man, that exact thing happened to me and the character version ended up way tighter somehow.

Well actually @hugog43, I think the character version probably just has less complex geometry, so it looks cleaner. The original model usually has more polygons, which can make things look clunky.
