The old library on Main Street had a whole room of just maps

I wandered into this rundown public library in my town last Tuesday because my internet was out. The second floor had this tiny room packed floor to ceiling with paper maps from like the 1950s through the 90s. I pulled out a road atlas for my state from 1978 and half the towns on it don't even exist anymore. Has anyone else stumbled on some weird hidden section in their local library?

It's like finding a time capsule nobody bothered to open. Old paper stuff hits different when everything's digital now.

The Smithsonian actually did a study a few years back about how reading on paper helps people retain info better than screens. @dylan265 that time capsule thing is exactly it, like finding a old library card tucked in a book from 1982 with names scratched on it. There's something about the physical weight and the smell that just sticks with you in a way a PDF never will.
