Rant: Character arc charts vs blind drafting, the chart won after 3 tries
Honestly, I used to think plotting out every character arc on a chart was for people who hate writing. I did two full stories just winging it, and both times I hit a wall around chapter 6 where my protagonist stopped making sense. Last month I tried a simple arc chart, just a line for their want and a line for their fear, and it changed everything. My main character's choices finally lined up with her flaws instead of just being random drama. The chart forced me to ask why she would say no at this exact moment, and that made the conflict feel real. Tbh, the downside is it takes an hour before you start typing, but it saved me two weeks of rewrites. Anyone else tried both ways or do you have a different system for keeping characters consistent?
