PSA: My cluttered desk sparked a way to find writing prompts anywhere

Okay so I was totally stuck on what to write, just staring at my messy desk with old receipts and a half-dead plant. I started picking out random items and asking 'what if' questions about them, like who lost that receipt or why the plant is wilting. It felt silly at first but suddenly I had a bunch of story starters from just junk lying around. Now I do this with any place I'm in, like a bus stop or a waiting room. Honestly it turns boring moments into idea fuel without any fuss.

Turned a coffee stain into a murder mystery.

Three months ago I wiped my desk clean. I found that a clear space lets my ideas flow better. When it's messy, I just see chaos, not story starters.

Wait, does it ever feel too empty now? I tried that once and the blank space just made me more stuck, like all the pressure was on me to make something from nothing. I started missing the old mess because at least a random receipt or a weird pen could spark a stray thought. How do you stop that clean slate from feeling like a scary blank page instead of a fresh start? It's like you traded chaos for a different kind of pressure.
